Fire escape - not

We are having a tenants meeting tomorrow to discuss a letter from Tom Jarman. One of the residents raised a concern on behalf of another tenant who had spoken with Building Control.
The original staircase windows opened on every other staircase. Now none of the windows open, and apparently this is a risk. If a fire breaks out, the firemen wouldn't be able to access the building or rescue people via the staircase windows.

Your Homes Newcastle have agreed to re-install 1 opening window on the top floor of the building. The residents I've spoken to aren't happy with that and want at least one window every other landing - as had been installed originally. This is being discussed by the residents at a meeting tomorrow.

We don't know how widespread this problem is, and whether it is just the Three Sisters buildings affected, or whether other high rise flats in Newcastle are impacted.
