Email from Jen Vinton 18Apr08 (Day of Public Meeting)

Dear Three Sisters
I am responding to your invitation to John Lee to tonight’s Public Meeting. I have been made aware that Building Control and the Fire Service will not be attending. This is on the basis that they are happy with the response from YHN.
We are very disappointed that someone has chosen to leaflet other multi’s of the same construction type which could have caused unnecessary worry when there is no need to do so. For your information we have written to all tenants concerned and have not received one response to this letter. The necessary work to the windows will be carried out to your 3 blocks during the course of next week.
We have also just found a Blog which clearly presents material in an unbalanced way and does not make any reference to what we jointly agreed as actions from the last Public Meeting. You are aware we were in the process of setting up the follow up Public Meeting but at your request this has been postponed until your Inspector has completed surveys and prepared a report.
On this basis we cannot see what can be achieved by turning up tonight.
As you are aware we are happy to participate in effective communication and consultation however it would appear your organisation is not interested in this approach and are more interested in a confrontational approach. I understand Ann Todd Mills spoke to Paul Baker yesterday and offered an appointment with John Lee in advance of the Public Meeting but this has been declined.
I would be grateful if a member of the Group could contact me urgently to ensure we set an arrangement in place where we can work with your group constructively, honestly and openly.
I must also advise that we are currently carrying out an investigation into the Blog and will be taking legal advice on this.
I look forward to receiving your response either via e mail or I can be contacted on 0191 278 8789

Yes this is a blog on the internet where people can list anything they so wish (within reason most people hope), there is no crime in airing concerns where we have right to worry. We have confirmation that the windows installed in the stairwell do have a problem which YHN did not pick up, it had to be pointed out to them! They now have to fix this problem. We have concerns that further mistakes may be made and if our landlords the council are going to refuse to come to a metting to address our concerns and deal with our worries then this only makes the situation worse.
We need our worries dealt with and consulation not just in written form but also by YHN meeting with us all to discuss this. We aren't 'just interested in confrontation' we want YHN to discuss the matter, and correctly identify the problems we are having after the installation of the windows.
Also the comment that they want to communicate with us honestly is appearing to assume we are lying about something? Our problems are genuine and the attitudes some tenants have received from some workers do not present a nice picture for the rest of the staff. Most are probably decent people 'just taking orders' sometimes.
Plus we wanted a public meeting so we could all hear what ever John Lee wants to say and did not appreciate YHN trying to arrange an individual meeting for one on one discussion where no one else could hear what was said and so there would be nothing to back up what ever was said, at risk of making this view appearing 'unbalanced' its almost on a par with a secret meeting.
I don't see why legal advice should be sort in the event of a blog, as this could be just the same as the newspapers or radio presenting their stories or reports in whichever way they see fit. newspapers are not taken to court over every story if presented in the wrong way, so why should a blog.
personally it seeems we are all angry about something, both sides, us that have the problems and those that now have to fix the problem which may cost them more than realised.
If YHN can discuss with us all our concerns and prove that we have nothing to worry about then we would be more satisfied.
Thanks.

TO YHN. someone has went arond leaflet other multi of the same construction becose if it is the same construction then we are thinking that all the windows are the same on the stairwells & if there is a fire then all the other blocks with the same construction are going too have the same problem as heaton park rd, molinex court, grafton house. all's we want is there to be some way for the smoke to ventilate out. but as we read the smoke will stay building up untill the firemen come to brake the windows, WOW.

to YHN, to comment on your stay put flat, where did you get your fire safety advice, i cannot for the life of me think a fireman would call flats such as heaton park court or the three in sandyford are stay put flats as they have gas in them and if a fire broke out there is a risk of explosion from the meters. also when there is a house fire the fire brigade empty a street where there is gas involed so are you suggesting the tenants of blocks with gas in stay put. we have hasd notices on the stairs next to lifts which state it is only a suggestion tenants stay put, but where there is gas would you risk your life on a suggestion. also the covering of the balconys took away the firwe exscape the first couple of floors had so when are you putting back the exscape route. shoddy workmanship, shoddy advice from a useless housing quango, bring back the council the sooner the better,
